The Barrister style clock will rectangular with an arched top. The carriage style (also known as a "bracket-style" is more of a square case with a handle on the top of the clock. The two most popular kinds of wood used to build the cases will be either Cherry or Oak. These are mechanical so you may need to adjust the time a little each week when you wind the clock.
